There are a number of factors that may contribute to being at risk for becoming a perpetrator of child abuse/neglect. These include but are not limited to the following:

  • Family history of abuse/neglect

  • Lack of bonding/empathy

  • Substance abuse

  • Physical isolation

  • Mental health issues

  • Domestic violence

  • High levels of stress, few coping skills

  • Lack of parenting knowledge, skills
